The European laws that have been safeguarding our nature are being quietly dismantled – under the false promise of “simplification”. Simply put: Our nature is under attack. We cannot let this happen.

Our health, our environment, and our daily lives depend on strong environmental protections. Clean air and water, resilient food systems, and safe communities all rely on strong rules that put nature first. Today, those rules are under pressure.

Under the banner of “simplification,” debates in the European Union are advancing proposals to roll back essential safeguards. Presented as a way to cut red tape and speed up decisions, these changes risk undoing decades of progress and giving more room to industries that harm nature.

When the European Commission launched a public consultation in September 2025, nearly 200,000 people responded with a clear message: environmental protections must not be dismantled.

Yet the threat has not disappeared. Efforts to weaken nature laws are ongoing, and the pressure on decision-makers must continue to grow. The coming months will be decisive: EU leaders will choose whether to dismantle hard-won protections or stand up for citizens and our shared future. That is why we must be louder than ever, now.
