Diversity, Equity,and Inclusion

Together, we give one voice to nature, creating change greater than the sum of our parts, so birds and all life can thrive.

Together, we are BirdLife International

At BirdLife International, we harness collective power to ignite connections and create long-term change. One of our core values is ‘Diverse by Nature’. As the only global Partnership conserving birds and all life on our planet, our interconnected approach values every voice and the differences between individuals, cultures and communities.

We are committed to everyone being able to bring their full self to the workplace, no matter their sex, gender, age, race, religion or belief, nationality, citizenship, ethnic origin, sexuality, physical or mental ability, or any other difference. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind nor allow stereotypical thinking to influence our decisions.

We are stronger together. That’s why we harness the ‘Power of Many’ – the rich variety of perspectives and experiences across our partnership give us shared evidence to influence how society views and values nature. We unite as a chorus to give one voice to nature, giving a platform to those who would otherwise not be heard to ‘Champion Change‘ and ‘Act for Nature‘.

Together, we will conserve birds and all life everywhere.

Our perspectives on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

“The planetary crisis requires action from everyone.  This is why BirdLife responds to the needs and ideas of our 123 national Partners who work alongside local communities and Indigenous Peoples.  It’s why we also explore innovative ways to engage Global Team staff made up of 58 nationalities across 11 offices around the world.  We are all in this together and we are at our best when we are together.”

Martin Harper, CEO, BirdLife International

“If we want to make an impact that truly benefits birds and people on a local-to-global scale, it’s crucial to be inclusive. Our work includes women’s savings groups and widows producing the Tori lines that keep albatrosses and seabirds safe from fishing hooks across the Pacific. This impact feeds back to communities in ways greater than one can imagine – it can mean putting food on the table, making ends meet and giving that little extra comfort to their families.”

Margaret West, Regional Director, BirdLife Pacific

“BirdLife can be recognised as an exemplary and truly global organisation of diverse representation where diverse groups are seen, heard and supported. We can enhance the roles and rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, civil society, youth, women and all marginalised viewpoints. That’s my interest, and in any kind of advocacy position, we put these perspectives forward as well.”

Dr Poshendra Satyal, Senior Policy Manager, BirdLife International
